Cold Laser Therapy For Acne

Low Level Light Therapy Treatment For Acne

While many people suffer from acne, it’s a commonly misunderstood condition.
Acne is a skin disease that occurs when hair follicles clog with dead skin cells and oil from the skin. The resulting whiteheads, black heads, pimples and oily skin are not just unpleasant to look at, but can result in scarring.

At Vancouver Cold Laser, we will consult with client for appropriate treatment depending on client’s needs and condition of acne. Microdermabrasion can be very useful for people with active acne, mild acne discolouration, pick marks and very superficial or raised acne scars, helps clogged pores and clear acne.
We then use LED blue light therapy which helps clear acne by killing the acne bacteria at the source, deep beneath the skin’s surface, decreasing inflammation and improving skin tone, texture.
Also we combine red and blue light therapy for treatment of inflammatory acne. These two lights improve acne by combining anti bacterial and anti inflammatory action, which makes it a safe treatment for inflammatory acne.
Final step is light combined with oxygen which increases the oxygen concentration in the skin and reduces the damage caused by harmful bacteria. Oxygen disables toxins  of acne bacteria and reduces the bacteria’s ability to reproduce. When we combine  all these treatments in one session the results are incredible for healing and treating acne.

Your acne will be evaluated by our professional therapists, who will then recommend an individualized regimen involving a treatment or combination of treatments which may include: MICRODERMABRASION - A non invasive technique that works on the top layer of the skin. This procedure exfoliated the skin by removing dead skin cells, clearing clogged pores of oil and dirt and killing bacteria. BLUE LIGHT THERAPY - Non invasive therapy during which patients are exposed to a light source in order to treat and kill the acne bacteria. OXYGEN THERAPY - Oxygenates and detoxifies skin, calms acne, regenerates cells which in turn helps in acne scar healing. Acne is formed when the skin cells are clogged, trapping dirt and oils in them, causing the pores to be enlarged. The oxygen helps in shrinking the pores and doesn’t let your skin accumulate dust and dirt. As a result, it remains glowing longer, and you won’t get annoying pimples, zits and acne.

The number of and length of Cold Laser treatments will vary depending on several factors:

    • The type of acne you have (white heads, black heads, cyst-like pustules/pimples or a combination of one or more of these)
    • Where the acne is located on your body (typically, our patients seek treatment for facial acne, however, acne can appear on the neck, chest, back and sometimes the arms)
    • How much of your skin is affected by acne (the size of the treatment area will determine how many treatments will be required)
    • How well your skin responds to initial Cold Laser treatments

At the beginning of treatment, you will likely be prescribed a course of six weeks of Cold Laser sessions occurring weekly.  Depending on the strength of light being used (which is directly related to how bad your acne is), and how much surface area of your skin needs to be treated. Sessions range between 45 minutes to 60 minutes each.

As your skin responds to treatment, your health care provider will further assess how many additional treatments may be required in order to completely resolve your acne, leaving you with clear beautiful skin.  Cold Laser treatment for acne is a work in progress, and results may vary.

Each treatment is 60 mins long. We use all four modalities in 1 session to combat acne. Treatments are cumulative and should be done weekly in the beginning.

In many cases, our patients begin to see results after just one treatment!  Because Cold Laser treatments are non-invasive and do not cause destruction or damage to the surrounding skin and tissues, it is entirely possible to see improvement after your first treatment.  Keep in mind, ideally you should continue your treatments until your skin has cleared.

The Cold Laser light works inside the cells, encouraging healing and regeneration, so even if your skin looks better after the first treatment, you should continue to have additional sessions to ensure that all of the bacteria that causes acne has been destroyed, resulting in a smooth and clean appearance to your skin, and reducing the risk of experiencing another outbreak.

Once the root cause of your acne has been treated (namely, bacteria), your skin will likely continue to look great after you have completed your Cold Laser treatments.  While it’s possible that you may experience an outbreak from time to time, this can happen to anyone.  Things like diet, lifestyle, hygiene habits and stress levels can all contribute to a break out, but if you address these issues while you are receiving your Cold Laser treatments, you’re likely to have clean clear skin going forward.

Additionally, we recommend having preventive treatments once every few months after you have completed your initial course of treatment.  This will help to keep bacteria levels low, and allow the regenerating and rejuvenating benefits of Cold Laser treatment to continue even when your skin looks great on the outside.

Cold Laser treatment is a highly effective treatment for acne, no matter where it appears on your body.  The treatment is painless and quick, and in no time you will see clear beautiful skin emerge. The treatment is safe and there are no side effects.
