Microdermabrasion

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic skin treatment that uses a special tool to deliver professional level exfoliation of the skin, removing the layers of dead dull skin cells that accumulate on the skin’s surface.  These dead layers of skin can cause the appearance of wrinkles, dullness, uneven skin tone and more.

The treatment is non-invasive, pain free, and does not require any downtime.  The treatments will leave you with skin that looks younger, fresher, smoother, and dewy with good health, and in general is considered to be a ‘low risk’ treatment.

How Microdermabrasion is Performed?

There are two types of Microdermabrasion treatments as follows:

Skin Sanding with Diamond Tip Tool

This type of Microdermabrasion is performed using a special tool that has an abrasive tip.  This tip is moved back and forth across the surface of the skin to remove the build up of dead skin cells on the skin’s surface.  In layman’s terms, the tool ‘sands’ the skin to refine the tone and texture.

There are different grades of abrasives used with this type of Microdermabrasion tool.  Your technician will decide on which level of abrasive to use based on the skin issue(s) that you would like the Microdermabrasion treatment to address.

Spray and Vacuum with Crystal-Emitting Tool

In this type of Microdermabrasion, a special tool is used to spray very tiny particles of aluminum oxide and/or bicarbonate onto the skin.  This stream of spray loosens the dead skin cell buildup, and the vacuum removes the loosed matter from the skin.

Skin Issues That Can Be Treated With Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion can be used to treat a wide variety of skin conditions.  It is typically done on the face, neck, back and decollate, however it can really be used on any part of the body that requires treatment.  The most common conditions that benefit from Microdermabrasion are:

The list goes on, however these are the issues we treat most commonly at Vancouver Cold Laser.  It is also important to note that there are some skin conditions that should not be treated with Microdermabrasion:

What Are the Benefits of Microdermabrasion?

There are plenty of benefits of Microdermabrasion, even after just one treatment.  With regular sessions, you can expect to see much smoother skin.  You’ll also notice that your skin has a fresh dewy look.  Fine lines and discolorations will be reduced or removed completely.  As well, your pores will appear to shrink as congestion within the pores is reduce.

Another excellent benefit of Microdermabrasion is the stimulation of collagen.  Collagen is a protein within the deep layers of the skin that help our skin to appear youthful and clear.  When collagen production lessens, we begin to see the typical signs of aging.  Any time a procedure can cause an increase in collagen, we will see amazing benefits.

And finally, with each Microdermabrasion treatment, you will notice that your skin care products appear to be absorbed much more quickly, thus delivering the product deeper into the skin for maximum benefit.

    Is Microdermabrasion Safe?

Microdermabrasion is considered to be safe when performed properly.  At Vancouver Cold Laser, our technicians are highly trained and skilled to delivery treatments in a safe way, so that you do not suffer any skin damage as a result.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments you’ll need really depends on the skin condition(s) we are treating, and what area of the body we are treating.  In general, to treat issues on the skin of the face, treatments should be spaced out every two weeks, and you’ll likely need at least six treatments in order to see marked improvement.

At Vancouver Cold Laser, we will work out a treatment plan for you that will have you seeing visible results as quickly as possible.
